Trump allies in Wisconsin legislature are stiffing Dane, Milwaukee Co's $3 million recount costs

December 13, 2020 in Blogs

By Daily Kos

It appears that the Trump campaign’s promise to pay for the work of Wisconsin ballot workers for the added costs incurred in unnecessary and pointless vote recounts Trump demanded as part of his futile effort to overturn the 2020 election has gone the way of that equally imaginary $200 “Medicare Card” promised to seniors, just before they went to the polls in November.

As reported in the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel:

MADISON – The Republican-led Legislature’s budget committee is holding up reimbursements to two counties for their recount costs.

President Donald Trump’s campaign paid $3 million for recounts in Dane and Milwaukee counties, Wisconsin’s two most Democratic areas.

But two top Republicans said Friday they were withholding the money from the counties for now. They did not explain why.

The money owed to reimburse the time spent by Dane and Milwaukee counties in complying with Trump’s fantasy-based demands is apparently being held up for unspecified reasons by a single, unidentified Republican member of the state’s finance committee who has “objected” to paying the counties the money they are owed.

Analiese Eicher, Board Chairwoman for Dane county, provided a copy of the letter the County has received from the state’s Republican-led Joint Committee on Finance:

A number of facts need to be clarified. First, it is apparent that the money was in fact “put up” for the recount by the Trump campaign, in some format, or the recounts would not have proceeded. It’s unclear who from the GOP-led Wisconsin legislature is causing the funds to be held back, or whether it is a collaborative effort on the part of the state’s Republican caucus. It’s also unclear what, if any influence the Trump campaign has had in this matter, for example, whether the objections to disbursing the money are being urged by Donald Trump or a member of his campaign apparatus, or whether this is simply a rogue action by one deadbeat Wisconsin Republican legislator to express his or her dissatisfaction with the election results.

As reported by USA Today, by law any portion of the $3 million designated as prepayment but not needed for the recount would be returnable to the …read more

Michael Flynn, who pushed for Trump martial law, says Americans will 'not allow' Biden inauguration

December 13, 2020 in Blogs

By David Edwards

Disgraced former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn on Sunday insisted that Americans will “not allow” President-elect Joe Biden’s “false inauguration” to go forward.

Flynn, who has previously suggested that the current president should declare martial law, told Fox News host Maria Bartiromo that there is a “10 out of 10″ chance that President Donald Trump will be the next commander-in-chief.

“Why not look into this if in fact the evidence that we have is true?” Flynn opined. “We definitely believe that it is true. And there is clear, clear evidence.”

He added: “And so what we have to stop doing is saying [there is] nothing to see here, you know, we’re going to continue to march down the road towards a false inauguration, which the country will not allow that right now.”

Flynn also argued that the Georgia Senate runoff elections are “a falsehood that people shouldn’t even be considering right now.”

Internet slams 'groveling' Brian Kilmeade for allowing Trump to spew 'lie after lie' in Fox News interview

December 13, 2020 in Blogs

By The New Civil Rights Movement

Americans who watched Fox News’ Brian Kilmeade interview President Donald Trump are outraged at the “Fox & Friends” co-host’s “groveling” and “allowing” the president to spew “lie after lie after lie.”

Americans have grown accustomed to watching President Trump lie repeatedly, and while they are still outraged daily by those lies, they expect members of the press to definitively correct the record in real time when he does.

Not only did Kilmeade let Trump spew falsehoods with abandon in his Fox News interview that aired Sunday morning, Kilmeade actually spun the lies himself.

The outrage is so palpable “Kilmeade” is trending on social media. It’s rare when journalists attract more anger than the President, but Kilmeade’s refusal to tell the public the truth appeared to be a turning point for even some Republicans.

For example, in this clip Kilmeade poses a question noting that when Trump was sworn in to office the military’s budget had been cut by 25%. Much of those cuts were forced by Republicans via sequestration, a fact Kilmeade didn’t bother to tell viewers. But worse, he used Trump’s repeated lie, falsely saying that military was “out of bullets,” as a basis for his question. That dangerous lie has been disproved countless times, including today by retired lieutenant general Russel L. Honore’ (below, in a tweet.)

Kilmeade also let Trump get away with this lie: “The Supreme Court, all they did is say we don’t have standing.”

That’s false. In that case, filed by the Texas attorney general and joined by 17 others states and 126 GOP members of Congress, the Supreme Court voted 7-2 to decide they did not have standing – but said unanimously if they had taken the case they would have voted against it.

Kilmeade ignored that most important fact, allowing Trump’s dangerous lies to continue, lies that are now leading to violence on America’s streets.

Here’s how many are reacting:

Republicans plot attempt to deny presidency to Biden on floor of the House if Trump gives the word

December 13, 2020 in Blogs

By Tom Boggioni

According to a report from the New York Times, hardcore supporters of Donald Trump who serve in the House are willing to attempt to deny the transfer of power to President-elect Joe Biden if Donald Trump gives them a thumbs-up to proceed.

With the president insisting on Saturday during a Fox News interview that “It’s not over,” and Biden would be an “illegitimate president,” a few Republicans are making plans to use the rules of the House to contest the election results.

“As the president continues to refuse to concede, a small group of his most loyal backers in Congress are plotting a final-stage challenge on the floor of the House of Representatives in early January to try to reverse Mr. Biden’s victory,” the Times reports. “Constitutional scholars and even members of the president’s own party say the effort is all but certain to fail. But the looming battle on Jan. 6 is likely to culminate in a messy and deeply divisive spectacle that could thrust Vice President Mike Pence into the excruciating position of having to declare once and for all that Mr. Trump has indeed lost the election.”

According to the report, the effort is being led by Rep. Mo Brooks (R-AL) who has amplified the president’s accusations of voter fraud despite a complete lack of evidence.

“We have a superior role under the Constitution than the Supreme Court does, than any federal court judge does, than any state court judge does,” the conservative GOP lawmaker explained. “What we say, goes. That’s the final verdict.”

As the report points out, “Under rules laid out in the Constitution and the Electoral Count Act of 1887, their challenges must be submitted in writing with a senator’s signature also affixed,” with the likelihood that either Sens. Ron Johnson (R-WI) or Rand Paul (R-KY) might step up.

“Once an objection is heard from a member of each house of Congress, senators and representatives will retreat to their chambers on opposite sides of the Capitol for a two-hour debate and then a vote on whether to disqualify a state’s votes,” the report notes. “Both the Democratic-controlled House and Republican-controlled Senate would have to agree to toss out a state’s electoral votes — something that has not happened since the 19th century.”‘

That, in turn, could put Vice President Mike Pence — with an eye on his own political future — on the spot.

DC Cops meet Proud Boys' violent rampage with polite request to 'please stop'

December 13, 2020 in Blogs

By Lauren Floyd

A Black policewoman was injured and at least four people stabbed when a day of demonstrations in support of President Donald Trump’s election delusions ended in violence Saturday night in Washington D.C. Many have linked the violence to the white nationalist group the Proud Boys who Trump told to “stand back and stand by” during the presidential debate Sept. 29, 2020. Apparently, no longer standing by, they are shown in multiple videos attacking counterprotesters, burning a Black Lives Matter banner, and generally ignoring police orders with much-delayed punishment from authorities. In a video the New York Post obtained, white men in “America Strong” hats and wearing painted gold laurel wreaths associated with the Proud Boys attacked a man in all black, telling him to leave and shoving him when he tried.

“Get out! Get the f— outta here!” they shouted outside of Harry’s Bar, a gathering spot for the Proud Boys The Washington Post reported. When shoved, the man took out a knife to protect himself and tried to run away, the New York Post reported. “Get his ass!” someone in the crowd shouted. Police response as the targetted man vanished into the crowd was: “Stop guys stop — please stop.”

“Today I saw proud boys attack legal observers, call people cockroaches, and mace and assault random people. They can call themselves whatever they want, but they’re the new KKK. They’re domestic terrorists,” Black Lives Matter protester Joshua Potash tweeted early Sunday. He also compared police reaction to the violence with their response to Black Lives Matter protesters and journalists in the wake of George Floyd’s death. Floyd, a Black man, was killed when a white Minneapolis cop kneeled on his neck for more than eight minutes on May 25. At least eight people were partially blinded the same day police went on a rampage targeting protesters on May 30. “I’ve been at BLM marches all summer and fall where people are attacked and arrested by cops just for standing in the street. Tonight in DC dozens of Proud Boys maced and attacked people and cops …read more
